Derek is a seasoned Financial Planning Specialist with 25+ years’ experience in top-tier banks, known for his strategic insight and award-winning client service.
He’s also one of just 15 Irish people to complete the Seven Summits, including Everest and Mount Vinson. As an international speaker, he shares lessons from both the boardroom and the mountains on resilience, planning, goal setting, and high performance.

Introduction to
Derek mahon
Derek lives in North County Dublin and leads an incredibly active lifestyle. He plays golf to a handicap of 2, enjoys five-a-side indoor soccer, horse riding, cycling sportifs, 10k and half marathon runs, swimming, triathlons, adventure races, and, of course, trekking and mountain climbing.
With over 30 years of experience in financial markets, Derek has worked with international banking institutions in Dublin. He currently serves as a Financial Planning Specialist at AIB and is also an accomplished international speaker.
A seasoned world traveller and mountaineer, Derek has reached numerous local and international peaks and is one of only 15 Irish people, and fewer than 350 worldwide to have completed the Seven Summits.

The why
Behind the climb
Derek’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. His stories, ranging from how he prepares for the world’s most formidable peaks, to what drives him, how he balances his demanding professional life with personal pursuits, and how he maintains close ties with family and friends are deeply inspiring and motivational.
When asked why he does it, Derek replies simply:
